The Leidenfrost effect might have saved you a bit. I did that once and it wasn’t so bad surprisingly.

I once held my left hand onto a hot corner of a pizza oven for a few seconds until the signal for excruciating pain reached my brain cave. Amazingly, I still had suf
ficient mental acuity to come up with the idea of submerging the hand in a bucket of ice water until I could put a burn gel wrap on it. Doing so saved my hand from developing a scar, and also kept the pain level down to a manageable level.

unsolicited medical advice for Opponauts - the sting of a bad burn can be remedia ted by immersion in cold milk or cream , prefera bly whole milk. Something about the fat proteins. You don’t need this advice now, but someday you might... be safe out there

I’ve still got the scar on the top of my ring finger, circa sometime between 1989 and 1996. Remember the moment. Re member the feeling. Re member the smell. T he exact year escapes me.
